I would count myself as one of the unlucky ones who did not get retained at their place of work in our bid to serve the country, I mean National Service. I went from losing my parents to becoming the breadwinner for a family of 8, all in a year and as an unemployed graduate in Ghana, it was a hell of a time for me! I was hopeless.

I needed to secure a job as soon as possible to fend for my family. My savings could cater for us just a little while. I sent out CV’s for just about any kind of job, in a related field or not, I just needed to work so badly.

Just before poverty crept in, I got a job at a reputable company, good enough salary to take care of my family and with attractive allowances too. About 3months into my new job, I decided not to make the same mistake my parents made. I had to secure a constant means of income to run the home and that was when I settled on to setting up a family business.

Setting up a business is no job for the faint hearted. I needed to gain recognition to our target market whiles making preparations for a physical store. Hence, an online store.

I was browsing on Linkedin when I chanced upon an post, promising a website package at a very moderate price. It really caught my attention. The design, and they seemed to promise exactly what I needed to get my business out there. I clicked on a link to their website in an attempt to find faults with them because I did not want to give any chances to scam. To my surprise, the site was very professional and well designed. After several checks, I took their contact to place a call to them.

Not so long after, I received a message requesting to place a call to me. It was from WebSys Technology, same company I looked up few minutes ago. Are they spies? How did they know I found interest in them? Is this just coincidental? I needed answers so I called them after a while. As though they were reading my mind, the caller said he knows I might be wandering how or why they reached me but they were able to track my visit to their website and wanted to know my interest and how they could help me achieve them.

My shop is not yet ready not because I lack resources but the goods I brought in to stock the shop got finished in less than 6months through online sales. I have been able to make enough to take care of my family, open two new shops and also to further my education as well as that of my siblings.

Let's face it, your situation may be different from mine, but one thing we all have in common, is the need to thrive, meet customer needs at the right time and remain relevant as a business owner. In these turbulent times, the unexpected can happen at the drop of a hat. Don't get caught unprepared! Everything is online now. While the Covid19 pandemic/lockdown affected businesses, it was a reaping time for me.
